Former Players: Mendy in Grenoble, Rochat in the MLS

On a trial at Grenoble (Ligue 2) since more than 3 weeks, former Rennes defender Jackson Mendy has signed for 2 years in Isère. In June 2006, he arrived in Rennes from Quevilly on a one year trainee contract. Never able to stand out, he wasn’t kept by the Breton staff and was a free agent in summer 2007. After the Paris FC (2007-2008), and the reserves at Hansa Rostock (2008-2009) and Freiburg (2009-2010), Mendy will know his first real professional challenge in France.

After four seasons at FC Zurich (Switzerland), Alain Rochat will soon join the American Major League Soccer (MLS), after he signed a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps, which he will be joining in the coming winter. Arrived in Rennes in June 2005, Rochat remains an enigma in Brittany, where he did not manage to show all the potential he was deemed to have, and never managed to fit into Laszlo Bölöni or Pierre Dréossi’s tactics. Versatile – he could play as a centre or left back -, the Canadian born played only 11 goals in total with the “Rouge et Noir” before heading back to Switzerland.
