Transfers: Antonetti wanted to keep Sow

Talking to L’Équipe, Frédéric Antonetti looked back at Moussa Sow’s free transfer from the Stade Rennais to Lille this summer. At the end of the player’s contract in June, the club’s management and the player had found no agreement to extend his contract, especially because of the player’s salary demand, which annoyed the Corsican manager.

"I wanted to keep him, he’s a good guy, a complete player with a huge potential. And his fighting spirit is his main quality. Lille really made a good deal there", comments Antonetti, who surprisingly did not use Sow during the second half of the season.

As for Sow, he guarantees he left his training club in “very good terms”, while admitting he “was very upset”, not to see his contract extended by his former management. By all means, the Senegal international took his revenge during the first game of the 2010-2011 season, when he equalised to offer Lille the point of a draw.
