Frédéric Antonetti hits out at French football

Angered after his side’s draw against Saint-Etienne, Frédéric Antonetti reacted with hostility at his opponent’s tactics, who he considered refused any risks in this game.

"Saint-Étienne played all in defence, that’s French football for you. 6-0 scorelines like in Arsenal or Chelsea don’t exist in France. It’s a defefensive culture in a very even League. Saint-Étienne refused to play, as opposed to what they did against Paris and Sochaux."

At the beginning of the game, Antonetti had already criticised (and rightly so) the League’s representatives who refused to start the game if the Rennes players were to enter the pitch with a t-shirt to support injured Fabien Lemoine. Speaking to Foot+, the coach could not understand the decision and reminded this was a solidarity message only.
