Antonetti: “The players need to be shaken up sometimes”

In an interview to L’Equipe this Saturday, Frédéric Antonetti made a point of his intention to watch any weakening signs in his squad this season.

« In Rennes, there’s a habit of paying less attention and take it easy when it goes well. The players need to be shaken around a bit. I’ve understood this. I will avoid losing my focus » he explained in reference to last season, where he believes the club « should have done better ». This season, he hopes his players will “all be pulling the same way”

In this aim, Antonetti decided to favour a « harsh competition » within his squad, now basing his choices on each player’s performances. A week ago, before the game against Saint Etienne, he had reminded in his press conference that the “status would be abolished” for the 2010-2011 season.
