Former Players: Darcheville, Sorlin and Silvestre transferred

Free of any contract after a season in Nantes, Jean-Claude Darcheville has signed a one year contract (with an option for another year) with Kavala (Greece). After England, Scotland and France, he will discover his fourth championship. Arrived in Rennes in 1995, he played three seasons with the “Rouge et Noir”, scoring 5 goals in 43 Division 1 games.

Olivier Sorlin will be travelling the reverse way, and should join the Evian-Thonon Gaillard Football Club (Ligue 2) for a year. Left out of the squad by Guy Lacombe during the 2008-2009 season, he was loaned to PAOK Saloniki for a week during the winter transfer window. Fully transferred later that seaison, the former U21 French international played 213 games with Rennes, scoring 13 goals. He has the particularity of having played twice for Rennes in his career. Brought in by Christian Gourcuff, he left to Monaco in 2005. Lacking playing time, Sorlin came back to Brittany six months later, but he lost most of his influence on the team in the process.

After eleven years in England, Mickaël Silvestre signed for two years at Werder Bremen (Germany). Trained in Rennes, he soon came in the spotlight when he signed a contract at the Inter Milan without a transfer fee. After a long legal battle, the Stade Rennais finally won the court case, even though the sportive loss wasn’t mended. Spending most of his career at Manchester, Silvestre won five Premier League titles. Often rumoured to come back to Rennes, Silvestre was transferred to Arsenal in June 2008, but failed to make his place in the first team.
