Former Rennais: Bölöni sacked, Février disappointed he didn't do it to professional level

Difficult times for Laszlo Bölöni, as the former Rennes coach has been let go by his new employer, Al Wahda (United Arab Emirates). A hard decision for the Romanian coach, who was preparing for the Club’s World Cup at the end of the year. In February, Bölöni left the Standard de Liege (Belgium) with whom he had won the 2009 Jupiler League, to sign a contract with the Arabic club.

Arrived in Rennes in June 2003, he led the “Rouge et Noir” back to the European level, finishing fourth in Ligue 1 in the 2004-2005 season. A big influence in the club progress since the last decade, he left Rennes in 2006 to join Monaco, where he was sacked after only three months.

Trained in Rennes, Gaëtan Février who know plays for US Saint-Malo (CFA2), discussed his time at the club’s Academy on Football35.fr. A 2007 U18 France Champion alongside players such as Kévin Théophile-Catherine and Samuel Souprayen, he is now playing at amateur level and admits some disappointment at failing to snatch a professional deal at the end of his training, in June 2009 : “ I’m disappointed, even if we know from the beginning there are many contenders and very few winners. I played in Rennes with very good players, who deserve to have the professional status they’ve reached now. There were a lot of sacrifices, especially from my parents who always made much effort so we could manage it". Seriously injured, he did not have a chance to feature in the 2008 Gambardella Cup final, won by the Rennes youth against Bordeaux (3-0).
