Support to Fabien Lemoine: Rennes fined €1,000

Support to Fabien Lemoine: Rennes fined €1,000

2 weeks ago, the Stade Rennais decided to show their support to Fabien Lemoine before the game against Saint Etienne. Badly injured against Nancy the previous week, Lemoine had a kidney removed during the week. To show their support, all Rennes players were wearing T-Shirt featured with the player’s face and a support message.

Wishing to enter the field with the t-shirts on for the pre-match protocol, the starting eleven were stopped to do so by the League’s delegate at the stadium. After some discussion, the Rennes player were forced to take off their T-shirts and entered the ground 5 minutes later than expected, delaying the game’s kick off by as much.

Despite Frédéric Antonetti’s outrage in the Stadium’s corridors, and in front of the cameras, the tribute to Lemoine could not be paid as the Stade Rennais and the players had planned.

The LFP, usually fast to communicate on sanctions addressed to players and clubs, did not publish any information on the sanction. It was revealed by the Stade Rennais, showing their surprise through general secretary Patrick Frétel: "It is regrettable that the commission did not accept to listen to our arguments. The League could have shown some gentleness here and closed the case.”
