France U21: Kana-Biyik refused the selection

According to Eurosport, Rennes defender Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik hasn’t replied to the call-up he received from the France U21 team.

Convoked yesterday to replace Montpellier’s Yangambiwa, Kana-Biyik has received five caps with the Bleuets, for one goal scored. Of Cameronese origin but born in France, he was recently contacted by the Untamed Lions’ coaching staff, including his uncle François Omam-Biyik, to wear the shirt his own father was wearing during the 1990 World Cup.

«He told us he needs time to choose and make a decision », a FFF source explained to Eurosport. Kana-Biyik, who thought is time with the U21 was up after their elimination from the 2011 Euro, is now faced with the possibility to go on with the U21 and set his sights on the French senior national team, or join the Cameroon national team in short-term.

At this moment, Kana-Biyik’s absence should not have any consequences for the player, as no sanction is likely to be taken against him.
