Rennes - Monaco: A particular feeling for Hansson and Lacombe

Rennes - Monaco: A particular feeling for Hansson and Lacombe

One has already returned to the Route de Lorient with Monaco last season, the second will be back for the first times, a few months after leaving Rennes for the Principality. But both of them consider Saturday’s game as something special and personal.

Rennes is a « special place » for Guy Lacombe, a former player and manager at the “Rouge et Noir”. Although he left in conflict with members of the club such as Pierre Dréossi, the manager mainly “keeps good memories of the Stade Rennais and of the players that use to compose [his] squad”, and praises himself for “humbly taking part in their progress”.

In his team at the time, Petter Hansson eventually decided to join his former coach, who decided to hand him the captain armband. For the Swede, and despite his experience (soon to be 34), the game will have an unprecedented taste. “It’s the first time I return to play against a former club”, Hansson admits. Before Rennes, he had only played professional football at Halmstad, Sweden, and Heerenveen in the Netherlands, clearly reducing the possibility to play against a former employer of his. “I know nearly all the players, the staff, the defender continues. This will be a very special match.
