African Player of the year: Gyan faces Eto'o and Drogba

This Sunday, the African Football Confederation unveiled the three finalists for the 2010 Best African Player of the Year award.

Unsurprisingly, the three nominees are the players that already featured in the Ballon d’Or pre-selection, Asamoah Gyan, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o. Clearly the best of the three during the World Cup, Gyan will have a good chance against the Cameroonese, a triple winner of the award (2003, 2004 & 2005) and the Ivorian, who won it in two occasions (2006 & 2009).

Last month, the former Stade Rennes striker reckoned he « deserves » the award (read previously).

The 2010 winner will be elected by the fifty-three African national coaches. The result will be unveiled on December 20th, during a gala night in Cairo (Egypt).
