Antonetti : “If I don't succeed in Rennes, I can't stay”

The future of Frédéric Antonetti in Rennes is far from decided. With his contract expiring in June 2011, the manager is currently in talks with his management about the extension of his deal. In a long interview to L’Équipe, Antonetti has given two reasons why he would not extend his stay in Brittany.

«If I don’t succeed in Rennes, I can’t stay”. A phrase which echoes his words of the recent weeks, in which Antonetti had claimed that his future would be linked to the club’s results. Ambitious, the Corsican also admits that some solicitations could push him to think twice before deciding on his personal situation: “At the moment, I could sign another deal or stop. If I receive an offer from an important club tomorrow, maybe I would consider it. I’m not going to be double-faced”.

Meanwhile, the former Bastia manager explained that he had been contacted by a “good national team” last summer, without giving more information. He tells a bit more about Monaco’s interest, before the Principality’s club signed Guy Lacombe: “Monaco contacted me in 2009, twenty-four hours after I gave my word to Rennes. It’s true, that their proposal disturbed me”.
