Former Players: Dabo towards the USA

Released by the Lazio Roma in June, Ousmane Dabo, 34 years old, is closing to the end of his career. The international (3 caps) midfielder trained at the Stade Rennais is getting ready for a final challenge across the pond.

Talking to Ouest-France, Dabo doesn’t know exactly where he is going to sign yet. “I have got several contacts in the United States, he explains. I will sign, but I can’t say where yet. Over there players are paid by the League, not by the clubs…

Gone to Italy very early in his career (21 years old), Dabo spent most of his career in the Serie A (Inter Milan, Parma, Bergamo, Lazio), with short spells in France (Monaco for 6 months) and England (two seasons at Manchester City). More than twelve years after he left Brittany, Dabo will now discover another league.

« This experience was tempting me since quite a while, he affirms. I will reach the end of my career, I still have one or two years in front of me. I had always said I would stop playing when I turn 36 at the latest. I prefer this to slightly weird leagues such as Greece or Turkey”.

After six months off, Dabo will therefore join the handful of French players who already play in the MLS, including Sébastien Le Toux, another former Stade Rennes Academy trainee.
