Lacourt holds a grudge against Mangane

Lacourt holds a grudge against Mangane

On March 21st, 2009, Kader Mangane committed an horrendous tackle on his former team-mate Jonathan Lacourt, during a sadly remembered Rennes-Valenciennes. Nearly two years later, the Valenciennes player is still to return to competitive football, even though he has returned to training with VAFC over the last few days.

After the accident, the mood seemed rather friendly between both players, Mangane visited Lacourt on his hospital bed, and the latter did not seem to begrudge Mangane for his challenge. “I don’t resent him, Lacourt said at the time. It’s impossible. He is a great friend. […] I absolutely don’t resent him ».

Today, the tune has changed dramatically. Regularly questioned about Lacourt, Mangane refuses to answer systematically, while the Valenciennes man replies in an unequivocal way.

«Obviously I resent him!, he exclaimed last Thursday in an interview to L’Équipe. If I am where I am it’s because of him. The accident will remain unforgettable. I’ve tried to get over it since two years”. With a contract running out in June, the grudge is even stronger for Lacourt, since Valenciennes doesn’t seem ready to renew his contract at this moment, and his return date seems really uncertain.

Meanwhile, according to L’Équipe’s website, Jonathan Lacourt has started a legal procedure against Mangane and Stade Rennes.
