Unseen in twenty-three years!

The few supporters present at the Stade de la Route de Lorient this Sunday were offered a real festival: seven Rennes goals! This is not something Rennes has been used too in recent years.

To find a game with seven goals scored by Rennes, one has to look back at February 13th, 1988. On that day, Rennes then in Division 2 was facing the modest team of Baud (DH, 6th tier) in the Coupe de France’s 8th round. Rennes won 7-0. Laurent Delamontagne scored four goals, with three other goals by Imre Garaba, Jean-Michel Bridier and Erik van den Boogaard who played his first ever game with Rennes on that day.

To find a bigger score, it takes a trip back to December 9th, 1978. On a division 2 game, Stade Rennes thumped Blois by eight goals to nil. The Rennes strikers enjoyed their day: Yougoslavia’s Edin Sprečo scored four, while Laurent Pokou managed a hat-trick. A goal by Alain Borne came to cap the Rennes display.
