Transfers: Dréossi confirms for Benteke

Tuesday evening, we revealed exclusively the interest of Stade Rennes for international Belgian striker Christian Benteke (Loaned to FC Malines by the Standard de Liège).

Talking to Ouest-France and L’Équipe this Thursday, general manager Pierre Dréossi confirmed the club’s interest. “He is a very promising player, and since he already is an international, he should receive much solicitation, he explained to the regional newspaper. This is why we are try to recruit him now”.

Rennes’ aim is to manage an agreement in order to guarantee his arrival in June this year. Since he has already played for two clubs this season, the tall striker (1,91m) could not arrive this winter anyways. “There is no emergency, Dréossi affirmed to L’Équipe. We are in contact and working on it.

As for the player, he is clearly interested by the challenge. Benteke’s agent even admitted to Ouest-France that “a club like Rennes can’t be refused”. It then remains to agree on financial terms with Benteke, and above all convince the Standard to let their player go.

Meanwhile, Stade Rennes will remain « vigilant » on the transfer market in January, and the club will try recruiting another forward if an opportunity was to arise.
