Mangane: “Each game will be a final”

Mangane: “Each game will be a final”

Speaking to Le Parisien a few days before the League restarts, Kader Mangane gives his views on Stade Rennes’ ambitions for the rest of the season

Enjoying the team’s defensive solidity, the Rennes captain also points at the attacking lacks. “We don’t score enough, Mangane admits. To be champion, you need a pair of strikers scoring 25 or 26 goals”.

A pair the Stade Rennais could have had, if some choices hadn’t been done during the summer break? “It is clear that if we had kept them all (Ed.: the forwards transferred last summer), we could really think about the title”.”But this is football”, the defender explains, fatalist, before aligning his position to the club’s choices, denying a lack of ambition in the team. “The club wanted to give its trust to young players and give them playing time. It’s its strategy, Mangane affirms. At the moment, it works as they show what they can do. They have to prove their management it was the right choice to trust them”.

Today, the target in Rennes is to clinch a European place at the end of the season. “But this place won’t fall from heaven, the Rennes captain adds. We will need to really fight for it”. In that goal, the Senegalese defender’s recipe is to “continue what we started”, with the “mental strength” as the main factor to maybe make the difference in the final stages. “this second half will be much harder, Mangane affirms. Each game will be a final”.
