Coupe de France : against Reims in the Round of 16

The draw for the Coupe de France’s round of 16 was once again rather clement to Stade Rennais. Not only, they will face the Stade de Reims, currently 17th in the Ligue 2 championship, but the game will be played at the Route de Lorient

Rennes has indeed avoid the other six top-flight clubs remaining in the competition,a nd will have the home advantage as against Cannes.

It must be remembered however, that Reims’ last visit to the Route de Lorient had been the occasion for a huge disillusion. In December 2006, in the Coupe de la Ligue’s quarter-finals, Reims had come to win against the “Rouge et Noir” by one goal to nothing. Rennes had conceded first through a goal by Cédric Fauré, and had never managed to equalised, despite a penalty taken –and missed – by Monterrubio in the closing stages of the game.

This will therefore be a revenge for Rennes, who will try to qualify once again for the competition’s quarter-finals. Also an occasion to see former defender Lucien Aubey, who left Rennes a year ago and came back to France this summer, but also Johann Ramaré, born at the club and trained at the Academy.

The game will be played on February 1st or 2nd.
