Rennes - Reims : Antonetti and Dréossi point at the players’ attitude

Rennes - Reims : Antonetti and Dréossi point at the players' attitude

After yet another disillusion for Rennes, this Tuesday against Reims, each and everyone is trying to find an explanation to the defeat

After the game, Frédéric Antonetti had criticised the attitude of his players, whom he accused of not entering the game in the right frame of mind. “I told my players that football is a school of humility, the Rennes coach explained. In training, they have to apply themselves to give an inside foot pass or simply giving the ball back. They also need to do runs in order to be performant, since this is what happens in the games. Tonight, we realised that this school of humility is a tough one, as when you are not good enough, the sanction is immediate”.

Antonetti went on with threatening words, warning – without naming any players – that some had exposed themselves to sportive sanctions. “A match is sometimes enough to slow down or break a career, the manager explained. For some guys, this game will be a disillusion, for the others, a big stop. Some players are not good enough to match the exigencies of Stade Rennes. When you want to be exigent, you need players to be. Some of them have not taken their chance, they even played their testimonial match tonight”.

Questioned on RMC on Wednesday afternoon, Pierre Dréossi called the elimination a “big disappointment”, while enumerating causes for the defeat. On top of the absences, the quality of the opponents and the two missed penalties, the general manager was particularly unimpressed at the lack of fightin-spirit shown by Rennes. “They (Ed.: Reims wanted it more than us”, Dréossi analyse, calling these lacks “illogical”.
