Contracts, Douchez: “A resumption of the discussions”

Contracts, Douchez: “A resumption of the discussions”

On Saturday evening, commentators on Orange Sport hinted that Nicolas Douchez wasn’t that certain to leave Brittany at the end of the season anymore, letting the observers think of new talks between Rennes and the goalkeeper regarding a contract extension (read the echoes after Rennes-PSG).

Talking to L’Équipe this Monday, the former Toulouse keeper confirmed a likely “resumption of the discussions in the next few days” with the Stade Rennais.
Last year, the Breton club had wished to extend the contract of the player by making an offer the player eventually refused, even though he was « interested » in Rennes’ project. With the goalkeeper being slightly under the weather during the 2009-2010 season, the first proposal had not been followed and the recruitment of Johann Carrasso last summer looks very much like a logic of succession in the Rennes goals.

Since then, things have changed and the mixed performances by Carrasso, combined with those much more convincing from Douchez, seem to have brought Rennes’ management to rethink their position.
The keeper, himself, is considering all his options, with the choice of leaving Brittany in June or signing a new contract possibly presented by Stade Rennes. “I’m not closing any door, he explained. I have got propositions which I haven’t accepted yet. I want to be sure of my decision and not have any regrets, whether it is here or elsewhere”.
