International : Montaño « disappointed »

Announced as called-up in the national team... And finally out of the list unveiled a few hours later. Such is the misfortune experienced by Victor Hugo Montaño last week.

The Stade Rennais’ Colombian striker, who is still to wear the colours of his national selection in an official match, was expected to figure in the list for the next friendly game between Spain and Colombia, before realising his name wasn’t included in the list published by his national coach.

Talking to the club’s official website this Tuesday, the striker explains the confusing situation. “I received a convocation and then received a phone call from Hernán Gómez, the national coach, Montaño explained. He told me he is counting on me, but I’m returning from an injury, it was too early”.
Obviously « disappointed » by this aborted debut, the former Montpellier player will have to wait a bit longer before receiving his first international cap. As a matter of interest, his brother Jhonnier has already been called with the Colombian national team. Now playing for Konyaspor in Turkey, he even took part in the Copa America in 1999.
