Douchez : «A wage policy that doesn’t suit me»

Douchez : «A wage policy that doesn't suit me»

This is no secret, Stade Rennes wish to see Nicolas Douchez extend his stay in Brittany. With a contract expiring in June, the man in charge of Rennes’ goalkeeping duties since three seasons has got his future in his hands.

Last season, talks had been held between the parties, over a possible extension of his contract. Questioned this Friday in France Football, the goalkeeper gives a new insight on this episode, explaining there was a big difference between his wage demand and the club’s proposal. “When I was given the figure, I didn’t believe it, Douchez explains. It meant I wasn’t important for Rennes. In L1, there are ten goalkeepers who earn more than me!

Although Douchez seems in agreement with Rennes’ project and the club’s current sportive dimension, the issue is really much linked to money considerations. “Here, there is a salary policy I respect but that doesn’t suit me. I may be asking for the maximum, but Rennes only proposed me the minimum!
These financial questions will therefore be at stake during the next discussions between the player and the club. At the moment, the latter hasn’t made any new financial offer to Douchez, and therefore keeps chances, as limited as they seem to be, to see him sign a new deal.

Since January, Nicolas Douchez is able to receive contract offers without Stade Rennes’ consent. The goalkeeper, who wishes to be offered a four year contract, has already received offers, but not from Paris Saint-Germain, despite rumours announcing an interest for the club for him. But Douchez doesn’t seem that bothered about joining the French capital. “I’m not imagining my future in Paris more than anywhere else, he explains. If you want to know everything, I consider there are as many chances I would go to Paris than there are chances I would stay in Rennes. My wish is to play for a club that offers me a good challenge”.
