Former players: Jeunechamp, one more year

With his contract at Montpellier HSC due to expire in June, Cyril Jeunechamp arrived in June 2009 from OGC Nice, the former Stade Rennais FC defender had been left out of Nice’s professional squad by ... Frédéric Antonetti. At the time, divergences of opinion between the men led to Jeunechamp being side-lined from April 2009.

A former captain at Stade Rennes, Jeunechamp remains as a special player in the heart of Rennes’ supporters. Determined, with a remarkable mental strength, the man from Nimes arrived in Rennes during the 2003 winter transfer window. Arrived to play as a defensive midfielder, he eventually spent much of his time in Brittany playing at left back. He was one of the key players in László Bölöni’s tactics, when he composed one of the best left sides in the French league alongside Olivier Monterrubio. Badly injured in two occasions and lacking play-time at his return, Jeunechamp left Stade Rennes in November 2007, after a last game at the Stade de la Route de Lorient against Brann Bergen (1-1) in the UEFA Cup. After the final whistle, he received a beautiful and moving ovation from the Rennes supporters.
