Gambardella Cup : Rennes will travel to Lorient

Stade Rennes now know their opponent for the Gambardella Cup’s round of sixteen.

After knocking Plabennec, Boulogne-sur-Mer and Caen out of the competition, Régis Le Bris’s team will face FC Lorient. The game will be played in Lorient, during the week-end of March 20th.

The two clubs are used to facing in this competition. Over the last two seasons, Stade Rennais eliminated the “Merlus”, but they had to go through penalties on both occasions. En 2009, Abdoulaye Diallo had forced the decision in this exercise [(2-2, 4-3 pen.), before his susbtitute Vincent Dorel repeated the performance in 2010 (1-1, 4-2 pen).

Three times lucky in 2011? Rennes will face a team that went through the first rounds by eliminating lower divisions teams Challans (6-0), Colomiers (1-0) and AS Vitré (1-0).
