Douchez : «A good opportunity to distance Marseille»

Talking to RMC yesterday, Rennes goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez shared his feelings before the game against Marseille on Friday evening.

«We are looking forward to play against Marseille, it’s a big encounter, a gala match, the Rennes keeper reminded. We put ourselves in the best mental shape to prepare it, and we are very aware that this is a good opportunity for us to distance Marseille a little bit”.
As for the pressure to gain a good result, the former Toulouse man thinks it is mainly weighing on the Marseille players. “The game is more decisive for them, he affirms. Originally, we were going for the first five positions. If we lose to Marseille, we remain in front of them. Now, if we could push them seven points away, it would be a good advantage and it would offer us a few lifelines for the rest of the season”.

With a contract expiring in June, Douchez is still to decide what his future will be made of, and he hasn’t set a deadline to his decision. “I don’t want to put my personal situation before the club’s”, he affirmed as to explain not to let his situation interfere with the team’s result. “I take a lot of my decisions on a good feeling”, he explains, adding that he wants to be “happy with the choice [he will make]
As for his team-mates, they would clearly like the goalkeeper to extend his stay in Rennes. “He makes us all profit of his qualities. He still has a few good years in front of him, Romain Danzé affirmed to RMC. He is always in a good mood, he enjoys life, but he also knows when to raise his voice. He has a great importance in the dressing room. Everyone likes him. I hope he will stay with us, since we need him ».
