Transfers, Martel: “Boukari? not a loser”

Transfers, Martel: “Boukari? not a loser”

Before his team’s game against Toulouse FC this week-end, Lens President Gervais Martel came back on Razak Boukari’s transfer, sold to Stade Rennais FC this winter. Currently revelling at the heart of Rennes’ attacj (five goals, four in Ligue 1), the Togolese international is one of the best affairs of the last winter transfer market. But this isn’t a worry to RC Lens’ historic manager, who admits his departure was a “question of financial reality”.

With the departures of Bangoura and Gyan last summer, Rennes had already tried hard to bring Boukari to Brittany (read previously). In vain. A few months later, looking for a real reinforcement in attack, the Rennes management finally managed to sign the Epervier for five million euros: “I had given my word to the player. His performances prove we didn’t sell a loser. I’m happy to see him succeed there”, he said about his former player, who didn’t show any sympathy at the time of scoring against RC Lens a few weeks ago (2-0, Match day 25).

A proof of his good settlement: in seven Ligue 1 game with Stade Rennais FC, Boukari has already scored over half the number of goals he had netted while playing for RC Lens. Before his arrival in Brittany, he had indeed played 93 games in Ligue 1… for 7 goals.
