Carrasso wants to be the number one

Following the departure of Nicolas Douchez (read previously), the hierarchy for the goalkeeper position should be remaining at the centre of all interrogations between now and July.

Arrived last summer as a « number 1 bis », Johann Carrasso ended up being a clear number 2 being Douchez this season. Next season, the former Montpellier man has only got one priority, to play after two seasons as a substitute.
Talking to L’Équipe’s website, Carrasso admits he is living a «difficult season », but reckons he has “come back to his best level” since four months. “Even the coaches said it to me”, the keeper affirmed, who advances that “to prove it, [he] would need an opportunity to play”.

Actually, when the young keeper played this season, his performances were less than convincing. After a bad outing against Guingamp in the Coupe de la Ligue (1-3), he played a much better game against Caen (0-1), didn’t do much against Cannes (7-0), and conceded another 4 goals against Reims (3-4), where he was clearly left alone by his defence.
To see Stade Rennes decide to trust him and give him a status as number 1 is now is “priority”. If not, his departure is more than likely. “I can’t afford a third season without playing”, explains Carrasso who reckons that “it would bring [him] nothing personally. And nothing to the club either».
Waiting for the Rennes staff’s decision, the former U21 international « will discuss it in June with [his] agent”. A chance to consider his future, in Brittany or elsewhere.
