Marveaux: « I am an honnest guy »

« Next year, I will play in England ». Since his contract with Stade Rennais ends in june, Sylvain Marveaux is free to be hired with any club, and will join a Premier League club next year.

Before leaving Brittany, the Vannes-born midfielder wanted to settle a few bones in the columns of L’Équipe with his future ex-staff, who « let him know that they didn’t want [Marveaux] to come back to training with the group » this week, even though he would have been able to take part to collective training. « I didn’t try to understand, says Marveaux. I prefered to tell nothing and not to disturb the group ».

Magnanimous, the offensive miedfield ? Listening to him, his attitude this season was irreproachable. « Last summer, I announced my desire to leave, reminds Marveaux. But I didn’t stay reluctantly. [...] We had a discussion with Pierre Dréossi. He told me that the club didn’t want to sell me. I answered +OK, but I will not extend my contract + ».
A will justified by the Vannes native: « I don’t think that it can be considered as a disrespect or a lack of recognition to the club that trained me, as I heard », he explains, adding that he considers « to have been honnest » in that situation..

One year and only ten matchs later, Marveaux confirms his refusal to extend his contract and his decision to quit the club ,« disappointed » by the staff attitude. « When I’m on my hospital bed and I read, the day before my operation, that I wasn’t good enough and that other players took my place (see the official SRFC site), it does not please me »
Therefore, the former U21 international « resents a little » Pierre Dréossi, who was hit at him several times this season (see in particular), by « putting this on the account of frustration and disappointment ».

« During ten years (Ed. : five years in formation, five as a professional), I gave all I could give to Rennes, concludes Marveaux. Everything was not exactly a bed of roses. I notably had three operations in six years. I would have liked to go, leaving the image of a club-trained player who become important ». Having failed to succeed his season 2010-2011, this objective will remain not met.
