AfCON 2012: Mangane called-up, N’Diaye left out

Amara Traoré, the coach of Senegal’s national team, revealed a list of twenty three players retained for the next African Cup of Nations.

Kader Mangane, who usualy plays as a central defender with the Senegalese « Lions », logically appears on this list, and will leave Brittany during several weeks in January and February. On the other hand, Cheick N’Diaye, who was called up as fourth goalkeeper in November, didn’t convince his national coach. He will stay in Rennes this winter, and Frédéric Antonetti will have all his goalkeepers available during this period. N’Diaye took part in the 2006 and 2008 AfCoNs, the last two played by Senegal.
With no surprise, the other Senegalese players of the professional team were not called-up either. Defender Pape Malick Kandji and forward Abdoulaye Sané will remain at the disposal of Laurent Huard, and maybe of Frédéric Antonetti.

Among the 23 retained Senegalese, many Ligue 1 players have been called-up, in particular former Rennais Moussa Sow, Diawara (Marseille), Bayal Sall (Saint-Etienne), M’Bengué (Toulouse), Lamine Sané (Bordeaux), Gomis (Valenciennes) and Camara (Montpellier). An other former Rennais has been called-up, in the name of Jacques Faty (Sivasspor), but not the midfielder Papakouli Diop.
