Celtic - Rennes: Dréossi puts pressure on the players

Yesterday evening, for their last training in Celtic Park, the Rennes’ players arrived an hour late on the ground, according to Thursday’s edition of L’Équipe. Lack of punctuality? In reality, the players were warned by Pierre Dréossi.

« We saw the players for a while, in order to warn everyone, the general manager explained then to the press. I don’t want to have catastrophic months of October and November, as we’ve already had in Rennes in the past ». Dréossi is actually experienced with this situation: during the last Europa League group stage played by Stade Rennes, his team (he was then the team’s head coach) literally collapsed during the autumn, leading to managerial change in mid-December, when he was replaced by Guy Lacombe.
After an average month of October (victories against Lorient and Auxerre, draw against Celtic, defeats in Lille and Toulouse, elimination in Le Mans), « it’s time for us to resume our way forward, Dréossi asserts. This team has the means, if it really wants it, to achieve great things ».

Great things, like at last wining the first victory in the Europa League’s group stage in Stade Rennes’ history. Since the Red and Black didn’t manage to win a single match during their first three participations, the general manager is annoyed with this absence of progression. « We are building slowly. Too slowly as far as I’m concerned, he explains. I hope that we will accelerate this progression. I think we can improve a little faster ».
