Coupe de France : Rennes - Nancy to begin with

Coupe de France : Rennes - Nancy to begin with

Stade Rennes had to wait for a long-time before knowing its opponent in the ninth round of the Coupe de France. Drawn in penultimate position, the Rouge et Noir will face the AS Nancy –Lorraine for their entrance in the competition.

In a group including four other Breton teams, the Stade could hope for a derby against the TA Rennes, who managed an authentic exploit in the eighth round by eliminating the FC Nantes on penalties last Friday.
With only four teams left to be drawn, the names of the two Rennes club were still to come out of the hat. Finally, the amateurs will face the US Quevilly (National), a team the Rouge et Noir still remember, while their professional counterparts will be hosts to Nancy, another team from Ligue 1.

Not an ideal draw for Rennes therefore, even though Frédéric Antonetti’s players will have the advantage to play in their stadium. Rennes-Nancy will be one of the only oppositions between two Ligue 1 teams, while Saint-Étienne will receive Bordeaux. The game against the team from Lorraine will be the first match in 2012 for Rennes, and should be played on the week-end of 7 and 8th January.
