Dyon: “I accept my responsibilities”

Dyon: “I accept my responsibilities”

Accused to be partly responsible of the cascade of injuries that struck the professional squad last season, fitness coach Nicolas Dyon gave his point of view, this Sunday in Ouest-France.

«I accept my responsibilities for the initial injuries. Not for the relapses, Dyon explained. But we don’t want to create tensions between the coaching staff and the medical staff. There must be things we didn’t do well. All of us. There have been too many injuries. We entered an injury psychosis, we lowered the workload and removed the training camp usually organised in March. And at the end of the season, we lacked energy».
Dyon, who « felt like slapped across the face » and « had a very hard time » with these failures, affirms that the causes of the injuries are multiple, including “the youth of the squad, the intensity of the games, the pressing, the playing style”, but also the “Life hygiene” of the Rennes players.

This season, the technical staff will therefore do their best to correct the issues, with a particular emphasis on « muscular tests », Dyon continues. We will also be more precise on the workload at training. We will quantify it precisely. In that aim, the club accepted to invest in GPS systems to keep track of all distances completed during training. Apart of that, we will continue our work of athletic preparation, as we have been doing since several years”.
This groundwork should allow the club to avoid the misfortunes experienced last season.
