Europa League : FC Sion’s case dismissed

Europa League : FC Sion's case dismissed

The Olympique of Alpes SAS (registered company name of the professional section of the FC Sion) saw its case dismissed on Thursday, regarding its two appeals made to the civil jurisdiction of the court of Martigny.

The first request had been deposited by the players recruited recently by the FC Sion, who are involved in this affair. An appeal which was rejected to the motive that it is the club which was excluded from the competition and not the plaintiffs.
The second request (deposited by the club) was rejected because the valaisane jurisdiction considered that it was not capable of judging the affair for geographical reasons. The head office of UEFA is indeed based to Nyon, outside the canton of Valais. The choice to turn to the court of Martigny and not to that of Nyon had been made by the leaders of the FC Sion, who wished to avoid an early defence produced by Celtic Glasgow. The Scottish club which, according to Le Matin, had hurried to send its argumentation into a preventive file of twelve pages at the address of the court of Nyon !

If the deadlines seem too short today so that Sion can play its first match of the group phase in Madrid, the Swiss club should pursue its appeals before the civil court. The Swiss club can also rely on an massive and unexpected support, having received numerous e-mails from the Glasgow Rangers fans!
