Europa League : Madrid has a feast, Udinese confirms, the Celtic sinks

Stade Rennes’ next opponent in the Europa League, the Atlético Madrid, has obtained its first win of the season in the league on Sunday. The team from Madid had no difficulties in beating its opponent of the day, the Racing Santander (4-0). The Colchoneros scored two goals in each half, with Colombian striker Falcao enjoying a “hat-trick” (including a penalty) before Adrian extended his team’s lead in the last minutes of the game on a good delivery from Arda Turan.
With this first victory, the Atlético climbs to ninth position in the league table.

The team against Santander : Courtois - Perea, Miranda, Dominguez, Filipe Luis - Tiago, Suarez - Reyes (Juanfran, 75’), Diego (Adrian, 46’), Turan - Falcao (Pizzi, 67’).

After its victory against the Stade Rennais, Udinese continued a fine week by easily beating the Fiorentina (2-0). As against Lecce last week-end, the players from Frioul made the difference very early in the game. The unavoidable Antonio Di Natale scored again, this time on a penalty… following a handball. Just before half-time, Isla profited of a bad clearance by the defence to double his team’s lead.
An easy victory which places Udinese in third position on the league table, only preceded by Napoli and the Juventus on the goal difference.

The team against Fiorentina : Handanovic - Basta, Benatia, Danilo, Domizzi - Isla, Pinzi, Asamoah (Agyemang-Badu, 60’), Pasquale (Armero, 41’) - Torje (Abdi, 74’), Di Natale.

Finally, the big loser of this week-end is the Celtic Glasgow. For the first Old Firm of the season, the Bhoys suffered a heavy defeat against the Rangers at Ibrox Park (2-4). Celtic was leading 2-1 at half time thanks to goals scored by Hooper and El Kaddouri (the second on a big blunder by the opposition’s goalkeeper). But Carlos Bocanegra’s Rangers have finally made the difference in the second half, profiting of Celtic’s catastrophic defence.
This results allow the Rangers to take their distances on their great rival in the standings. Still second, the Celtic is now four points away from the lead.

The team against the Rangers : Forster - M. Wilson, Loovens, K. Wilson, El Kaddouri (Stokes, 63’) - Brown (Forrest, 74’), Kayal, Ki, Mulgrew - Hooper, Samaras (Bangura, 83’).
