Europa League: Sion - UEFA, the war of press releases

Europa League: Sion - UEFA, the war of press releases

Still awaiting for a decision from the CAS in the case that opposes FC Sion and the UEFA, both parties held a war of press releases, this week

Through its official website, the Swiss club drew its gun first. FC Sion stated that the civilian justice noticed that its orders were still not applied by the UEFA, and that it judged the UEFA’s argument – which announced to be incompetent to decide to reinstate the FC Sion in Europa League (read previously) - « totally inconsistent ». Furthermore, the Swiss justice doesn’t understand why the UEFA is waiting for the CAS decision before executing its order.

Few hours later, the UEFA reacted in another statement. The European federation assets that FC Sion’s request to replace Celtic for the match of Thursday in Rennes had been dismissed by the same court of justice.
Above all, the UEFA notes that the four clubs of group I (Stade Rennes, Udinese, Atlético Madrid and Celtic FC) asked to be heard by CAS in order to assert their own rights. At stake, a potential increase of matches to be played rejected by Pierre Dréossi in L’Équipe’s columns Tuesday morning.
Finally, the federation emphasizes once again the legitimacy of the CAS, since the clubs of group I, « such as every other club engaged in the competition, recognize the CAS as the only relevant authority able to decide on the substance ». A CAS judgment rejected by FC Sion since the beginning: « It seems that only FC Sion is trying to slow down the procedure, which made the CAS announced that its procedures were « obviously excessive » », explains the press statement.
