Europa League : Sion lose its appeal

Europa League : Sion lose its appeal

A contrasted day for FC Sion. This morning, the Swiss club has been backed by the civilian justice in its battle to take part in the group phase of the Europa League, for which it qualified on the pitch before being disqualified by the UEFA.
Despite the order by the court from the Canton de Vaud to immediately reintegrate the FC Sion into the Group I of the Europa League, the UEFA has decided to confirm, in appeal, its initial decision. This decision therefore confirms the qualification of Celtic Glasgow and the elimination fo FC Sion.

The decision had obviously triggered the anger of FC Sion’s management, especially since it came against a decision from the court. The decision by the court allows the Swiss club, however, to summon the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) in an emergency procedure, which it could do in the next hours.
Following the decision by the UEFA, the Celtic will play in Madrid this Thursday, while the FC Sion will wait for a decision by the CAS in the hope to be reintegrated to the competition. Meanwhile, the Swiss managers are expected to be suing the UEFA in front of the penal court to push them to respect what they consider their right.
