Europa League: the Udinese takes an option

Europa League: the Udinese takes an option

While Stade Rennes and Celtic Glasgow stagnate in group I following their draw, the Udinese defeated Atlético Madrid and took an advantage which could be decisive for the qualification.

In the Stadio Friuli, the Italians waited for the very last minutes of the match to make the difference. Partly reshuffled at the start of the game (Di Natale and Asamoah were on the substitutes’ bench on Udine’s side, Reyes and Mario Suarez on Madrid’s side), both team remained even for a long time.
Everything finally unrolled at the 88th minute, when, after a free kick, the defender Mehdi Benatia ended up alone in front of Courtois, and cold-bloodedly beat him. Udine then scored a second goal in extra time, on a counter-attack nicely concluded by Floro Flores slotting in a good cross (2-0).

With this success obtained at the end of the match, Udinese is the only undefeated team of the group and leads it with seven points. Madrid is now relegated three points behind, and can still be reached by Rennes or Celtic, who close the group’s standings with two points and no victory.
