Former players: Fabrice Fernandes remanded in custody

In its Sunday edition, newspaper Le Parisien reveals that Fabrice Fernandes was remanded in custody last Wednesday by the organized crime division of Paris.
The former midfielder, trained at Rennes’ Academy and whostopped his playing career in 2008, is suspected of having ordered a kidnapping attempt and money extortion from his former agent.

The presumed victim affirms having been assaulted on September 21st September by three men who tried to make him get in a car, explaining him that he had to pay back an amount of 225 000 €. After having succeeded to escape, the agent suspects Fernandes to be the instigator of this action.
In 2008, the player had reportedly asked his agent to make a 200 000 € investment for him. The agent explained to the police investigators that this investment « didn’t work as expected », and that Fernandes – having lost the money – asked him to pay him back with interests, but without any success.

Trained at Stade Rennes’ Academy, Fabrice Fernandes – once one of the most promising players at the club – experienced a chaotic career, which leaded him from Premier League to Bétar Jérusalem, via the Romanian league. Arrested and questionned last Wednesday with two other suspects, Fernandes denies any part in the facts.
