Hunted in vain by Marseille during the final hours of the transfer window, Asamoah Gyan won’t play with Sunderland this season. The Ghanaian forward was loaned for a year to Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates.

A call that comes after Gyan had experienced an underwhelming 2010-2011 season with the Black Cats. “Everyone who could see Asamoah play, knows he wasn’t himself during this last months, commented Sunderland’s manager Steve Bruce. Asamoah still has a three years contract and my wish is obviously that he regains his form in white and red (the colours of the british club) next year”.

The Ghanaian international is already in the Emirates, where he will wear his favorite number 3. He could also face his former Rennes partner Ismaël Bangoura, who plays for another clubs form the UAE, Al Nasr.
Transferred for £13 million in late August 2010 (a record for Sunderland), Gyan delivered a non-satisfying first season in the Premier League, even though he scored ten goals in the Premier League. Probably well below the expectations of his new club.
