Former players: Wiltord signs for Nantes

Sylvain Wiltord, who has been training at la Jonelière since the beginning of the month, has officially signed for FC Nantes this Tuesday. The former international striker, trained at Stade Rennes, has convinced the Nantes management to offer him a one-year contract.

Wiltord is therefore returning to Ligue 2, where he already played with Metz between January and June 2010. Since his departure from Lorraine, the striker was looking for a new club. Already targeted by the “Canaris” both in the 1990s and at the end of 2008, Wiltord will finally arrive on the Erdre banks, in what will probably be his last club, at 37 years of age.
In Nantes, he will be considered a veteran and mentor the youngsters at the club. “Guys like Sylvain will bring us a lot everyday, Landry Chauvin admitted on the FCN’s official website. You only have to attend training to see it. We know he won’t be able to play every game, but his presence is enough for the younger players to get in tune”.

Wiltord joins a troop of former Rennais at FCN, which has considerably grown this summer, particularly within the coaching staff (including, beside Chauvin, Stéphane Ziani, Bruno Baronchelli and Stéphane Wiertelak. He will also reunite with Bruno Cheyrou, his former team-mate in Rennes. Finally, Simon Pouplin could also follow. Released by Freiburg, the former Stade Rennais goalkeeper is one of the players considered to suceed to Guy-Roland N’Dy Assembé (gone to Nancy) in the Rennes goals.
