International: Boukari qualified with the Togo

A success by the slightest of margins (1-0) was enough for Togo to knock Guinea-Bissau out in the first round of the African qualifications for the 2014 World Cup. Following their draw (1-1) in the first leg, Togo will rally the group phase and play at least six more qualifying games.

As Friday in the first leg, Togo scored early in the game, with a goal by Serge Gakpé (2nd minute) giving the “Sparrowhawks” the lead. In the starting XI on Friday, Razak Boukari has paid for the return of Emmanuel Adebayor with his national team this time, and remained on the bench all game.

Qualified after this very close double-encounter, the Togolese will have their work cut-out in a difficult group including Georges Mandjeck’s Cameroon, Libya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
At the term of the six matches played by each national team, only the best team will be qualified for a play-off rounds, after which the five winners will gain the right to take part in the World Cup in Brazil.
