International: Saturday’s results

Two (young) Rennes’ players were involved in international games, last Saturday on African continent.

Called-up with Mali, Cheick Fantamady Diarra saw his partners get their qualification to the next African Cup of Nations. Despite a draw against Liberia (2-2), the Malians profited of the defeat of Zimbabwe in Cape Verde (1-2) to qualify. With the same number of points as Cape Verde, the « Eagles from Mali » ended the group in the first place, with a better particular goal difference.
Quicklyin the lead, the Malians managed to equalize after fifteen minutes through Bordeaux’ player Cheick Diabaté, before taking the advantage at the end of the match with a head goal scored by former Nice’s player Cédric Kanté. The tying goal scored during injury-time finally had no consequence. On the substitutes’ bench at kick-off, Cheick Fantamady Diarra didn’t enter in the ground.

Later that day, the Olympic team of Morocco easily beat Gambia (3-0) in Tanger. A formality for the Moroccans, who quickly scored the first goal by El Hassnaoui, before benefiting from two penalties transformed by Labyad. On the substitutes’ bench at the kick-off, the Rennais Yacine Qasmi didn’t take part in the game either.
