International: Togo and Burkina win, Morocco has to wait

International: Togo and Burkina win, Morocco has to wait

The international week continues, and there were some rather promising results for the Stade Rennes players playing on the African grounds last week-end.
In the Central African Republic, Youssouf Hadji’s Morocco had the occasion – in case of victory – to qualify last Sunday for the coming African Cup of Nations finals. The « Atlas Lions » will finally wait, since they couldn’t win (0-0), drawing on the same score as in the first leg.
On a soaked ground resembling a potato field, Moroccan were quite clumsy and missed several major occasions to score, especially Youssef El Arabi. Starting the match, Hadji didn’t succeed either, notably when his header bounced off the crossbar. The new Rennais, associated with former Caen’s player, finally played 80 minutes before being substituted.
For Morocco, the qualification will be at stake in the beginning of October, with a match against Tanzania. A victory will see them go through to the Tournament. Every other result would force the Moroccans to wait for the result of the game between the Central African Republic and Algeria.

In another qualification match for next ACN, in which nothing was at stake, the Togo of Razak Boukari (who started the match as a forward) won against Botswana (1-0), thanks to a goal scored by Arimyao (23’). This is the first victory in the qualification round for the « Sparrow Hawks », who are already eliminated. Botswana, who leads the group by far, was already qualified.
At last, Saturday afternoon, Burkina Faso won a friendly match against Equatorial Guinea (1-0), thanks to a goal scored by Auxerre’s player Alain Traoré. As a reminder, Burkina Faso is qualified for the final phase of CAN (see otherwise). Jonathan Pitroipa was preserved by his selector Paulo Duarte, and started the match on the substitutes’ bench.

These three players should be back at La Piverdière on the beginning of the week, in order to start the preparation of the match against Marseille next Saturday.
