Medias : Costil superstar

A day after Rennes’ victory in Marseille (1-0), it was Benoît Costil who received all the media solicitation. After a superb game, the “Rouge et Noir” goalkeeper had already received, visibly embarrassed, a vibrant homage from his team-mates, who chanted his name in the dressing room in front of the Canal+ cameras.

In the press on Sunday morning, the former Caen player was logically awarded the best marks, receiving a 9/10 from Ouest-France and a 8/10 from L’Équipe . During the day, the player also spoke to RMC and later –from his living room-, to the “Canal Football Club” on Canal+. Modestly, Costil reminded that “the whole team deserves praise for this game”.
«I was recruited to be competitive, the goalkeeper also underlined. My job is to make the saves when they are needed. We all gave a lot, we all played with a lot of determination. We defended well, we also suffered much, especially on the set-pieces, but we didn’t only defend on this game. Mandanda was also forced to do some important saves, it proves that we were also on the attack”.

Finally, beyond victory, the goalkeeper and his defence can also be satisfying since they didn’t concede a goal. “This is an important satisfaction in this game, Costil recognised. Since the beginning of the season, we won games but we always conceded a goal or two. Us, the defence, and even the whole team, it did annoy us slightly. We wanted to manage one game without conceding. It was difficult but we did it. It was difficult, but we’ve done it”.
Now, the mission for Costil and his defence will be to renew the same achievement as soon as this Thursday, in Udine in the Europa League.
