Except for a last minute turnaround, Chris Mavinga should be the fourth major recruit at Stade Rennais, after Julien Féret, Benoît Costil and Jonathan Pitroipa.

Wednesday’s edition of Ouest-France and Saturday’s edition of L’Équipe both stated that the young Liverpool’s defender would logically be hired this week with Stade Rennais, after the undergoing the usual medical.
Currently preparing the U20 World Cup with France, Mavinga won’t join the Rennes’ professionnal squad before at least August 5th (the date of France’s last group phase match), and could even come back to France after August 20th (the date of the U20 World Cup final).

If this arrival is confirmed, it would grant Frédéric Antonetti’s wish to have a left back at his disposal. Although, Mavinga can also play as central defender, Pierre Dréossi confirmed yesterday on RMC that the young defender would arrive to play as a full back.
According to L’Équipe, Rennes and Liverpool agreed on a transfer indemnity of 1 million euros.
