Transfers : Rennes step up a gear for Mavinga

Rennes have accelerated their chase for the recruitment of a left back. According to L’Équipe, « Rennes have nearly agreed with Liverpool yesterday “(i.e.: Friday) for the transfer of Chris Mavinga. After several days of talks, the clubs have found an agreement in principle, since Stade Rennes agreed on paying a one million euros fee to sign the young French defender.
At this time, however, Mavinga remains to take a decision regarding his future. In Liverpool since June 2009, the man from Meaux had been loaned to Genk in December. In Belgium, he won the Jupiler Pro League and has also been offered a contract by the Genk management.

Called-up by Francis Smerecki for the U20 World Cup starting at the end of July, Mavinga announced that he would give his final answer within ten days, in order not to disturb his preparation for his coming international duties.
A U19 European Championship of Nations in June 2010, with his friend Abdoulaye Diallo, Mavinga revealed himself as a central defender during this tournament. The left-footed defender can also play as a left back, although he was re-positioned at centre at the age of 16, during this training at Paris Saint-Germain.
