Gyan : “I don’t know what my future is made of”

Staying ? Leaving ? The question disturbs the Stade Rennais striker. Meanwhile, back from the World Cup, the Ghanaian considers himself fit for the restart of the League. He accepted to answer our questions in the Route de Lorient corridors.

Gyan : “I don't know what my future is made of”

Le Mensuel : Asamoah, there are persistent rumours of your departure. Turkish club Fenerbahçe is said to have sent an offer which Rennes is about to accept…

Asamoah Gyan : I don’t want to talk about this

What can you say to the Rennes supporters, who truly dread this possibility ?
I love them. Stade Rennais gave me a chance and put my career back in the right direction. I am very grateful. The coach likes me very much too. I’m very happy here. However, I don’t know what my future is made of. If a club comes with a good offer, we have to consider it… I really don’t want to talk about this.

Let’s talk about the League then. It restarts in ten days. You’ve only been back in Rennes since three days. Will you be ready?

I’ve only been back in Brittany for a few days. I’ve always kept on training at home however. My presence on the pitch is all to the staff’s discretion. They have to decide whether I’m ready to play. I’ll do my best to be ready.

Are you still having nightmares of this missed penalty, at the last minute of the World Cup quarter-final’s extra-time ?

This was hard. For me, but also for the team, for the country. Even for the whole of Africa that was behind us… I missed this penalty indeed. I did a mistake. A few minutes later I didn’t hesitate to take my responsibilities. This is football. I’m coming out of this stronger. I’ve managed to get over it.

This World Cup revealed you to the World. You’ve even been selected among the tournament’s best ten players…

In one football game, a career can change completely. This is the madness of football. To me, I had to be among the bests. I’ve been waiting so long for that tournament, I could not possibly get it wrong.
