Time for an International break: Several Stade Rennes players will be absent from training for a few days. An overview of the international call-ups.

The « Untamed Lions »’ new national coach, Javier Clemente, called Rennes midfielder Georges Mandjeck, for a match against the Democratic Republic of Congo to be played in Garoua. This will be Cameroon’s second qualifying game for the next African Cup of Nations. After their success in Mauritius (1-3), Stéphane M’bia’s team-mates will target a second consecutive victory before the clash with Kader Mangane’s Senegal. On their side, the “Teranga Lions” will be taking on Mauritius in Dakar, with the intention to confirm the promises of their first game against the Democratic Republic of Congo (4-2). A goalscorer in that game, Moussa Sow is in the squad again, alongside Jacques Faty and Jackson Mendy, who now plays for Grenoble (Ligue 2).

Europe

Included in Laurent Blanc’s plans since he took the reins of the French national team, Yann M’Vila is included in the 1998 World Champion’s list for the two games against Romania and Luxemburg. A member of the starting eleven for his first three caps, the Rennes midfielder should get Blanc’s nod again against Romania, and will profit of Alou Diarra’s likely forfeit after he twisted his foot in training, and possibly Abou Diaby’s too.

Beaten by the surprising Belarus at the Stade de France (0-1), Les Bleus are nearly forced to win both of their next two games to avoid jeopardising their chances of qualification. Banned for tho games after his red card against South Africa in the last World Cup, Yoann Gourcuff is returning with les Bleus. Meanwhile, Anthony Réveillère could exploit Bakary Sagna’s absence to get a spot in the starting eleven.

After the disappointing elimination of the French U21 squad in the 2011 Euro qualifications, Érick Mombaerts broadened his choice by bringing in a few younger players from the 1990 and 1991 generation. Two young players trained at the club, winners of the 2008 Gambardella Cup with the Stade Rennais, have been called up for a training camp in Clairefontaine between October 3rd and 5th. They are Abdoul Camara and Vincent Pajot, loaned to Boulogne-sur-Mer (Ligue 2) this season. Entered on the field to replace Victor Hugo Montaño against Toulouse (3-1), Camara only joined his team-mate the day after the game.

For the friendlies against Turkey (October 8th) and Denmark (October 12th), Yacine Brahimi has been selected by the national coach along with Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, called to replace Mapou Yangambiwa. Surprisingly, Mombaerts decided not to call Kévin Théophile-Catherine, despite the fac the convoked nine players born in 1989. A surprising choice in regard to the Rennes full back’s performances, who confirm week after week his potential with Stade Rennes’ professional team.

The France U19 coach Philippe Begeroo, ephemeral coach of Stade Rennes between June and October 2002, decided to call-up Rennes’ goalkeeper Abdoulaye Diallo. Last summer, The Reims born keeper -then upclassed – had won the European title with the age category. This time, Diallo will be in competition with the really promising Le Havre keeper Zacharie Boucher. The stakes will be high, as three games are coming up for the young Frenchmen in the first qualifying round for the 2011 Euro. The aim is to clinch one of two first places in a group including Austria, Montenegro and San Marino to reach the second round.

A former Rennes Academy trainee until June 2008, after coming out of the Cercle Paul-Bert de Rennes, Lindsay Rose has now been rewarded with a three years contract at Stade Lavallois. He has now played four Ligue 2 games with Stade Lavallois, including three this season.
