Reserve : An encouraging draw for Rennes

CFA, Stade rennais 0 - 0 La Vitréenne. Is it the dawn of better days for Rennes’ reserve? Trashed on their own field by Le Mans on October 9th, Laurent Huard’s youngsters came back to a more rigorous and serene attitude against La Vitréenne to manage a draw and trigger some optimism. As long as they can repeat that sort of performance in the future.

Reserve : An encouraging draw for Rennes

Against one of the most coherent teams in the League, the Stdae Rennes Reserve was facing a real test of personality. Moreover, in case of a victory, La Vitréenne had the chance to take over the league leadership after Avranche and Moulin’s results the previous days. The situation is certainly not as bright for the “Rouge et Noir”, fifteenth of the league before this game.

Without Frank Julienne in attack, the controversial Slimane Sissoko started the game at centre forward, with Jean-Bryan Boukaka and Quentin Rouger on the wings. At midfield, Laurent Huard lined-up his usual trio with Gaëtan Caro, Tongo Hamed Doumbia and Ghanaian youngster Kamal Issah Sissoko. With John Boye missing, Fabien Balisier was preferred to Vincent Le Boulaire to play alongside Bira Dembélé. Yassine Jebbour and Benjamin Basse started at full back. On the bench, two young players from the 1993 generation: French-Irish goalkeeper Niall Burdon, and defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré.

Unbeaten this season on the road, with the best defence in the league (4 goals conceded), La Vitréenne’s squad includes Guillaume Heinry, Benjamin Levacher and Yoan Pivaty, all graduates from Rennes’ Academy. The fourth, Willy Barru, was missing for this game after he picked up an injury last week in the Coupe de France.
