Stade Rennais Land : the club makes the “first step”

Stade Rennes wants to consult its supporters regarding the “Stade Rennais land” complex project. By next week, the club should be launching a big survey towards the public.

Stade Rennais Land : the club makes the “first step”

As previously announced by Le Mensuel de Rennes, the “Stade Rennais Land” project is well on its way. This Thursday, Pierre Dréossi, the club’s general manager, admitted he was working hard on the possible business use of the Stade de la Route de Lorient’s surroundings. “Any public evolves. Fans of 2010 are not the fans of 2000. We have to know how it evolves and receive a real feed-back in order to take the good structural decisions”. Among this “structural decisions”: the creation of a “Stade Rennais Land”.

A poll carried out among the supporters

In order to refine its project, Stade Rennes is carrying out a poll among its supporters, its season ticket holders and its customers. Next week, a survey will be sent to the season-ticket holders and then available on the club’s website. About fifty questions will be asked, in order for Dréossi and his staff to find out what the supporters’ habits are: When do they arrive at the stadium? Where do they want to go on match days? What do they want to do?

In other words, a market study aiming to measure the potential of a “Stade Rennais Land”. “This is a first step. This reflexion could indeed result in an improvement of the infrastructures, which would include this project. But this is only one alternative, there might be more before and, maybe, to complete this project.”, Pierre Dréossi explains.

The City is waiting for specifications

The city of Rennes, favourable to this project, is ready to give around ten hectares of land to build this commercial area dedicated to the club (see picture). Rennes’ socialists affirmed to the Mensuel in December 2010, that they were “waiting for specifications from the club in order to launch an urban study of the area, including the hypothesis and reflections of the Stade Rennais”. In Lille and Lyon, similar projects are appearing. They include hotels, restaurants, shops, go-karting sites… spread over dozens of hectares around the sites.
