Julien Féret returns to Stade Rennes to “improve”

Julien Féret, a 28 years old attacking midfielder, signed a three years contract at Stade Rennais. The second Rennes recruit comes back without any feel for revenge in his training club, and thinks about the French national team.

Julien Féret returns to Stade Rennes to “improve”

Since June 9th, Pierre Dréossi had announced that an agreement had been found between Nancy and Rennes for the transfer of Julien Féret. This Wednesday, the Saint-Brieuc man has officially spent his three year contract at the Stade Rennais. He is the second recruit of the club after the arrival of the goalkeeper, Benoît Costil. The club has recruited a player “able to bring more creativity and impact”, according to manager Pierre Dréossi. The attacking midfielder can play either on a wing or at the centre, his preferred position.

"No spirit of revenge"

After starting his career in Saint Brieuc, Julien Féret, 29 years old on July 5th, first arrived in Rennes in 2000. Mid-2003, he wasn’t kept by the club and left to Cherbourg (National). Later, he played in Niort, Reims and Nancy (104 games in Ligue 1). “He returns to Stade Rennes so it works, finally, with the first team”, Pierre Dréossi commented.

During his official presentation, it was impossible for Julien Féret not to look back at his first experience at the club. “I didn’t have a particular desire to come back here, it was neither necessary, nor a revenge, the new “Rouge et Noir” explained. I had lots of hopes when I arrived at 18. I was disappointed when I was 20, but I didn’t resent the club. I didn’t hold any grudge after what happened here. But it is nice to come back in that way”, the man from the Cotes d’Armor enjoyed, he who kept following the results of a club he got “impassionate with” between 2000 and 2003. “I learnt a lot here in terms of football, he précised. But I built myself, as a real man in football, during my experiences in other clubs.

A lift for Les Bleus ?

Why did he decide to return to the Stade Rennais ? « My first motivation was to improve in a club playing for European competitions, and playing for top table positions since quite a while already.” Pre-selected in the French national team last year, Julien Féret hasn’t given up on his dream to wear the blue jersey in the future. “To play for the Stade Rennais could be an opportunity, in phase with my evolution, to reach the French national team”, he recognised. At the moment, the Breton has only set one clear target: “play as many games as possible and be competitive".
